I wanted to provide some information for any trucking company wanting to obtain their tags and IFTA stickers.

Number One Rule: Have your paperwork in order BEFORE you go to the office.

This information is for a NEW REGISTRATION only. Due to COVID-19 protocols, renewals are not allowed to be completed in person. Check the flhsmv.gov site before you go.

It is recommended that you make an appointment through the flhsmv.gov site under the IRP page. At this writing, the first appointment is 2-3 weeks out. You can show up, but you would need to be at the office parking lot no later than 5:00 AM. They only allow 10 people inside the office at any given time. They will not allow any one to walk up after 2:00 PM. You must wear a mask and you will have your temperature taken.

    Our Experience

We did walk up appointments on 4 separate days.

Day One: The first attempt we arrived to the line after the 2:00 PM cutoff and was not allowed into the office. No tag or IFTA.

Day Two: We arrived at 8:00 AM and waited until 2:00 PM to be seen. The Power of Attorney, Certificate of Insurance, and the IRP application had wrong information. No tag or IFTA.

Day Three: We arrived at 3:30 AM and was seen at 2:00 PM. The Power of Attorney had a wrong date. No tag or IFTA.

Day Four: We arrived at 5:00 AM and was seen at 11:00 AM. Paperwork was accepted and we received tag and IFTA.

This was a frustrating process mainly due to the massive wait times. I recommend that you go to the IRP website and download the checklist if you do it yourself. The better option is probably hire a motor carrier IRP company and have them wait in line. At least they will have the paperwork in order BEFORE they go to the office.
